Can I change my premium option?
Yes, you can choose one of the various payment options by calling
us at:
1-800-267-2242.
Your options are as follows:
A. Monthly payments through a preauthorized cheque plan.
B. Quarterly payments on the first of December, March, June and
September.
C. Semi-annual payments due the first of December and June.
D. Annual payments due on Dec 1st.
The CBIA also accepts "telephone banking" payments
with all major banks. If you already have this service, you can
access our account as "CBA Insurance" or "Canadian
Bar Insurance Association". To arrange this service please
contact your local bank or trust company.
If my payment is due on the first of the month, is there a
grace period?
Yes, you have 30 days to make your payment.
Why was my premium increased?
There may be 4 reasons why your premium increased:
1. Term Life and Disability premiums are set in 5 year age bands,
so when you enter a higher age band, your premium rate increases.
2. Your premium will increase if you become a smoker. You are
required to notify the CBIA of changes in your smoking status
annually. If you have stopped smoking for 12 months or longer,
you may qualify for nonsmoker rates and a discount.
3. A recent change in coverage has taken place.
4. Your premiums may have increased due to an overall rate change
by the CBIA.
How do I change my banking information on my preauthorized
cheque plan?
Please fax us at 416-488-2254 a sample void cheque from your new
account with instructions to change your bank. Please be sure
to include your CBIA account number.
Can I pay by credit card?
Due to the additional cost of such a program, the CBIA does not
accept credit card payments.
Can I pay my quarterly or semi-annual premium by preauthorized
cheque?
This method of payment is unavailable, you may wish to consider
our "telephone banking" option or monthly plan.
How do I increase or decrease my coverage?
Please contact your local authorized CBIA representative.
Who is my beneficiary? or I would like to change my beneficiary.
Please contact your local authorized CBIA representative.
I want to cancel my coverage, what is required?
The CBIA requires an original signed letter from the policy owner.
It can be mailed to our Head Office or your local representative.
How do I submit a claim on my disability coverage?
Contact CBIA's Head Office toll free at 1-800-267-2242 or by fax
at 416-488-2254.
