Who is eligible?
Employees of a lawyer, partnership of lawyers, a Quebec notary
or a corporation established by lawyers to provide services to
the legal profession in Canada under age 65 working on a full
time basis.
Elimination Period
An employee must be totally disabled for 120 consecutive days
before being eligible for benefits. This dovetails nicely with
U.I.C. We have allowed for two successive periods of a same or
related disability separated by no more than 14 days of active,
continuous full-time employment to be aggregated for the purpose
of satisfying the elimination period.
Benefit
Accident and sickness benefits are payable to age 65 and benefits
terminate on the December 1st immediately following the insured's
65th birthday.
Definition of Total Disability
For the first 24 months, an employee will be considered to
be totally disabled if, due to sickness or injury, the employee
is not gainfully employed and the sickness or injury prevents
him/her from engaging in his/her regular occupation.
